Central Kalahari – 2 night optional Extension
By adding this extension on you allow your selves 4 nights in this desert game reserve.
Want to stay longer – ask us!
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve - originally created as a refuge for the San Bushmen - the inhabitants of the Kalahari for the past 30,000 years. They lived in nomadic hunter-gatherer life styles taking only what they needed to survive - which is an art form in the Kalahari. Bushmen survival became an issue in 1961 when Botswana was still a British Protectorate, and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve became their homeland. Most have now intermixed with other tribes such as the Bakgalagadi, and live in villages at the southern end of this reserve. Their traditional lifestyle is all but gone but some bush survival knowledge is still passed down from generation to generation. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is the largest game reserve in Botswana covering 32 808 square miles (52,800 square kilometres), and has until recently been closed to the public. It is located right in the centre of Botswana. What makes the Central Kalahari a stunning visit is its magnificent cloud formations during the summer rains, the thousands of grazing animals on the grass plains of northern Central Kalahari Game Reserve from February to April. The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is also home to Deception Valley as well as the most spectacular night skies. Rainy season: Summer rains expected to fall on northern Central Kalahari Game Reserve between November and March. Rainstorms are frequent but roads can become very muddy, very quickly and a fully equipped 4x4 vehicle is essential. Dry season: May to October is hot, dry and dusty in the Kalahari with little water and limited animals. Your lodge will be on a full board basis inclusive of game drives. During night drives, you are likely to see a slough of nocturnal animals like porcupine, aardvark, brown hyena and much more. The brilliant stars in the Kalahari night sky with the cool desert breeze is a sensuous experience not to be missed.

Khutse Kalahari Game Reserve – 2 night optional Extension
By adding this extension on you allow your selves 4 nights in this desert game reserve
Want to stay longer – ask us!
The 2,500 km˛ Khutse Game Reserve was opened in 1971, on Bakwena tribal land. Prior to this date, very few people lived in this harsh area of undulating plains of dry Kalahari bush savannah. Those who did were subsistence farmers / gatherers and limited hunters as they could only keep “stock” for a limited period. Wildlife was therefore considered a good alternative form of land use.
The extensive mineralised pan system within Khutse provides an important habitat for wildlife attracting herbivores to graze on the grasses of the pans, drink the mineralised water during the rainy season and to lick salt during the dry season. These herbivores in turn attract predators, such as lion, cheetah and leopard. Boreholes have been established at certain points within the reserve in order to encourage wildlife to stay within the area throughout the year. Whilst the visitor to Khutse should not expect to see or meet up with large concentrations of game, giraffe, gemsbok, red hartebeest, eland, kudu, wildebeest, springbok, steenbok, grey duiker, lion, leopard, cheetah, brown hyena, black-backed jackal, bat-eared fox and wild dog can be seen within Khutse, as well as many other smaller mammals. A wide range of birdlife from ostrich and kori bustard down to little browns will keep bird enthusiasts well occupied.
